The Eyes of Bast by Lisabet Sarai- She Vows To Save The Man Who Is Her Soulmate- #MF #Paranormal #Erotic #Romance #Shifter

Trust your heart. Follow your dreams.

Serial Love

The Eyes of Bast was an experiment. I created the novella as a serial, writing and posting a chapter each month as part of my regular website update. I've never tried this approach before. Although I'm usually more of a plotter than a pantster, I had very little idea about what would happen next. Each month, I'd reread the previous installment, to help me maintain continuity, and then I'd just sit down and write whatever came to mind.

The process was remarkably liberating. I could set my imagination free.

The bulk of what I write is targeted for a particular publisher and often, a specific call for submissions. I usually have a predefined theme and both a minimum and maximum word count. These constraints shape my creative process. My internal editor is constantly active. Would the publisher object to this language? Was I taking too long to get to the clinch? Was my take on the theme close enough to satisfy the requirements?

With The Eyes of Bast, I was writing for my own pleasure – and of course that of my readers. The story could be as long (or short) as it needed to be. I could write sweet or raunchy, depending on my mood.  I could introduce plot twists as they occurred to me, without worrying too much about plausibility.

I was writing purely for the fun of it. What a novel concept!

I'm actually pretty pleased with the way the tale turned out. I especially like the dramatic ending, which borrows a bit from horror tales. And I'm delighted by the depths my villain ultimately revealed. I have a problem writing bad guys (or in this case, bad girls). Delphine Montserrat is one of my better evil-doers.

I hope my readers agree.

Blurb

Shaina Williams' grandmother bequeathed her that wisdom, along with a old pendant from the Islands, carved from an ocelot's tooth. When instinct tells Shaina to visit the feral cat trap she'd set in Central Park, she listens to that inner voice, She discovers she's caged a magnificent black tom, but the cat inexplicably vanishes after she tends to his wounds. Seeking the errant feline, Shaina encounters instead a handsome stranger whose slightest touch sets her body on fire. As the day dawns after a night of ferocious passion, her mysterious lover is forced back into his true shape - the tomcat she'd rescued.

Born a cat, Tom was transformed into an unwilling shape shifter by a sorceress who craved a human plaything to satisfy her perverse lusts. Centuries old and irresistibly powerful, Delphine Montserrat will stop at nothing to find her runaway familiar. Shaina vows to do whatever is necessary to defeat the vicious but seductive witch and save the man she believes is her soul mate – even though it might mean losing him forever.

Excerpt

Tom finally broke the kiss and leaned back with a sigh. “Ah, Shaina! I should never have allowed you near me. But I was so very lonely... I wasn’t thinking straight. Now I’ve put you in danger too.”

“Danger? What kind of danger?” I reached over to flick the switch on my reading lamp, so I could read his expressions. Then I seated myself cross-legged at his feet and clasped his hands in mine. “Tell me, Tom. Tell me everything.”

“You will not believe me.”

“How could I not believe after – after what I saw this morning?”

His brows knotted together. “I never wanted you to see – I was careless...”

“But I did see. And now I know, at least something about you. But I don’t know enough to help you out of whatever trouble you’re in. Tell me the whole truth. I promise I’ll keep it private, if that’s what you want. And I promise I won’t be shocked.”

Tom’s lush mouth twisted in a grimace of disgust. “You might not be able to keep that promise. But never mind. You’ve asked. I’ll tell you.”

He stared off into the distance, above my head. “I was born in a small town in coastal Maine, about seven years ago.”

“Seven years...?”

“I was born a cat.”

I choked down my cry of surprise. How could it be...?

“Yes. I was born under a wharf. I spent the first six months of my life as a black kitten, a stray living off the scraps from the fishing boats and clam shacks. Then she caught me and made me her prisoner.”

“She?”

“I don’t even want to utter her name. There’s danger in the very word. She is a witch, centuries old, a practitioner of the darkest arts – the epitome of evil. Out walking one evening along the rocky shore, she caught sight of me and wanted me as her familiar. It was easy for her to lure me into her clutches.

“At first she just used me to facilitate her spells. The rumored powers of black cats are more than just legend. Before long, though, she began to experiment.”

His ominous tone sent a chill through my naked body. I pulled the towel around me.

“You see, her advanced age hadn’t diminished her lust. Quite the opposite. She wanted a sexual plaything, someone she could use to satisfy her perverted desires. A male body she could own and control. So she delved into her books of magic, seeking a spell that would turn her poor innocent feline familiar into a man – at least when she wanted him that way.

“Her first attempts failed.” Tom shuddered at the recollection. “She barely managed to save my life. I guess she’d grown fond of me at that point – in her own twisted way.”

“Oh, Tom...”

“Finally, she found a ritual that would change an animal into a human during the hours when the sun was banished from the earth. I’ll never forget the terror of that first transformation, when I found myself wobbling on two legs in front of her naked body. It was even worse than what came after.”

“What was that?”

“Oh, Shaina – I was human, but scarcely a man. I was barely thirteen.”

Adult Excerpt

It was near dawn when I woke again. In the pearl-gray light filtering through the blinds, my familiar furnishings were strange and ghostly, shrouded in shadow. Stretching, I realized I was no longer on the floor. My bed had been unfolded, and I lay stretched out on the sheets, nude. Alone.

Groggy with sleep, I raised myself on my elbows to scan the room. It appeared to be empty. “Tom?” I whispered. There was no answer. A sense of unreality seized me. Had I dreamed the entire scene – the handsome intruder, the overwhelmingly sensual kiss, the orgasm that had shot me straight into the stratosphere? I recalled my devastating arousal in the stranger’s presence. What was going on? Could I be suffering from some kind of hormonal imbalance? This seemed like something more than the normal horniness of a woman who’d been celibate for a while.

Thinking exhausted me. I sank back into my pillow, closing my eyes as if that might make my doubts and confusion vanish. Sleep, I told myself. I’ll figure things out in the morning. I was already drifting back into slumber when the sound of running water roused me.

I peered into the dimness. A tall, male form emerged from the bathroom. My heart did a somersault in my chest.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”

His low, musical voice melted me. I propped myself up to a sitting position, heedless of my nakedness.
“You! You’re real...You’re still here?”

He’d discarded his clothing as well. In the half-light, I drank in the sight of his smooth, muscled limbs, becoming more intoxicated by the moment. He seated himself beside me and circled me with his arms. Heat radiated from his dark skin.

“Why would I leave, my beautiful one?” he murmured in my ear. Bending a bit, he flicked his tongue across one of my nipples. Lightning tore through me. “There are still a few hours left to the night.”
Before I could reply, he’d fastened his luscious mouth on mine. His firm lips coaxed rather than demanded a response, one I was only too willing to give. I opened to the prodding of his rough tongue, letting him taste me, savoring his wild, sweet flavor in return.

Once again a sort of delirium swept over me. It seemed we were back in the park, sheltered by trees more than a century old. My nostrils filled with the perfume of dew-soaked grass and damp earth, laced with a hint of animal musk. I felt light as dandelion down, drifting in the night wind. Only his strong grip kept me grounded. The moon rode above the clouds, invisible but palpable, stirring tides in my flesh. Desire ebbed then surged, cresting higher with each cycle.

His hands molded my breasts like moist clay. Blind with need, I groped along his furred chest and taut belly, down to his gloriously erect cock. When I squeezed, he moaned into my mouth and bit the corner of my lip. The iron-tinged flavor of my own blood simply added to the stew of sensation.

I smeared my thumb over the slippery bulb. His answer was a savage twist to an already aching nipple. Moisture gushed from my pussy. I tumbled backward, dragging him down on top of me.

“Shaina...” he murmured, breaking the kiss to lick his way along my throat. His saliva felt like liquid fire. He nuzzled in the hollow of my cleavage, then captured one breast and began to suckle. Electric pleasure arced through me when his hardness brushed my inner thigh. I squirmed beneath him, trying to align his cock with my hungry cleft.

“Please....” There was no need for me to say more. The stranger rose above me, supporting himself on his powerful arms. His eyes gleamed like phosphorescent jewels in the grayness. He smiled down at me, baring those sharp, white teeth that had already drawn my blood. An almost inhuman glee painted his features.

He hovered at my entrance, his rigid flesh teasing my engorged clit. I spread my thighs wide. Without a word, he sank his cock deep into my drenched pussy.

About the Author

When I was a little girl, my dad would make up stories for my siblings and me, fabulous sagas about ghosts and monsters, magical races with mysterious powers, heroes on impossible quests, hidden treasures awaiting only the most courageous seeker. I blame him for my lifelong fascination with the magical and miraculous.

Now that I'm grown up, I create my own tales of wonder, weaving in generous portions of human desire with its potent enchantments. In my paranormal tales, love works the most powerful magick.

Excerpt:

“No way.” Allyse clutched the invitation in her hand and stood at the closed gates of the Rochester estate. She waved the email at the stylish woman with the clipboard standing in front of her.

“This was supposed to be for a behind the scenes job on the show, not for a close up on camera looking for a husband.”

“I understand, dear, but if you’ll get back in line with the others, we’ll get all of this sorted out in a few minutes, okay?”

“Others?” Allyse’s stomach sank. This was so not going how she’d planned.

“Other contestants. Everything will be explained shortly. Now, if you’ll just get in line?” The woman’s voice drifted off in a distracted hollow tone, her attention taken up by a large catering truck approaching the gate.

“You need to go around back. This is for guests only.” She jabbed her finger at the driver’s window and Allyse stopped listening.

Allyse gritted her teeth and made her way over to the group of six women who, like her, waited for direction. She didn’t miss the behind the hand comments and slant-eyed stares. Her curvy form seemed to invite them. Today, she’d worn a new black and white floral top and soft flowing black slacks with new strappy black heels. Her long, dark hair was twisted into a loose updo with tendrils of curls fluttering down the sides of her face. She’d even splurged on a new tube of lipstick she couldn’t really afford, but it was important to make the right impression with the people who mattered.

Out of the corner of her eye, Allyse spotted a camera crew filming them from afar and her stomach did a funny little flip. She turned her head and recognized the hostess for the show standing next to the coordinator and swallowed the lump that had grown in her throat. She’d helped behind the scenes on a few shows, but never had she even considered herself a candidate for the hand of a man she didn’t even know. It was, in her opinion, ludicrous to think you could meet someone and know, in a date or two, if there was chemistry enough to warrant a lifetime commitment. How awkward would it be to tell someone oh hey, I sort of forgot to tell you I’m a witch that can sniff out car keys like a prized spaniel and oh, by the way, if you ever want your roses to grow, just pass me the word and I’ll make sure they get the memo.

Besides, she never aspired to being married. No one had ever really made her think of it. For her, marriage meant forever, and she didn’t abide by the modern sensibility that you could dump someone like you changed your socks. The only man in her life was Mr. Stinky, an irritable little Chihuahua who’d claimed her heart long ago. She was happy. He didn’t hassle her about her curves or needle her about hogging the bed. Nope. He was a perfect little pouty faced angel and she was mad for him.

He was pissed as hell at her right now, too. Leaving him with her mother wasn’t normally an issue, but the little guy had taken one look at her luggage and given her such an evil glare she still had the scorch marks. He’d gone right up to the top of the stairs, staring down at her like an angry gargoyle.
All she had to do was get through the next few days, collect her check and hope it was enough to help put a dent in her mom’s doctor bills. It made her sick to think of how little insurance actually covered. She had to do something to help make ends meet and work she would. It was late afternoon and, from what the email said, they should be entering the property to get settled.

The hostess walked away from the film crew and joined the other women.

“Attention, ladies. If you could all join me here at the gates, we’ll get started.”

STORY EXCERPT:

She’d better get back now. Her shift at the cookhouse started later tonight and she had chores to do before then. She turned to set off and found herself surrounded by four huge black wolves.

How did they get there? I’ve never been taken unawares before. I can’t fight four of them, and they are depute law-keepers, so no point in trying to charm them. They are bi-sexual, but they can’t mate with females unless they become the LawKeeper. I wonder which territory they are from. How did I manage to stray so far?

One of them advanced toward her slowly, and then he gave the “yip” that meant “submit.” She had no choice. She couldn’t outrun them, so she dropped to her haunches and waited.

He advanced toward her, circled her, sniffing her fur, and then he nipped her right ear twice,"Shift."

When she’d shifted into human form, the four did the same. She drew in a breath. Four tall, bronzed males stood before her. They were just like the depute law-keepers in her settlement. Wide, muscled chests, narrow hips, powerful thighs, and so well endowed. She lowered her eyes. It wasn’t polite to stare at a man’s private parts, but that had never stopped her and her friends from glancing and speculating.

“What are you doing in our territory, little one?” he asked.

He towered over her. Six feet, eleven inches of delicious male flesh.

Down, girl. He’s a depute law-keeper. One of those four is his mate. He’s not interested in me in that way. I suppose the gift of bi-sexuality and those gorgeous bodies are some compensation for the renunciation of home and family. It doesn’t stop me looking and longing, though. Auntie May’s right. I need a mate and soon.

“Who are you? I didn’t know it was your territory.” Attack is the best form of defence, after all.
“I’ll ask the questions, and, if I’m satisfied with your answers, I may well give you the information you want.”

Typical, arrogant depute law-keepers. This lot was just like the ones in Brora.

“My name is Morag of Brora.”

“My, my, you are far from home. Are there no rules in Brora about lone females straying so far from your home settlement?”

Sarcastic depute law-keeper. He knows damn well that there are. The Goddess gave the same rules to all four packs, after all.

She thought about lying, but somehow she didn’t think that would be a good idea. So she fell back on what usually worked with the depute law-keepers in Brora.

“Oh, I’m so sorry,” she said in her best girly voice. "I was so carried away by the spring and the beautiful wood that I just ran and ran without thinking.”

Let’s see if that gets me anywhere.

“Did you now? Were you going anywhere in particular, or do you make a habit of this?”

“Oh no! I’m usually a good girl, but it’s spring and I needed the exercise.” She stretched and wiggled her arse, then giggled to herself. Waste of time, but it was worth a try.

“Well, Morag of Brora, there are penalties for trespassing on our lands. Come with us!”

“But, sir, I have a shift in the cookhouse tonight, and my chores to do first,” she pleaded in a breathy little voice.

“You should have thought about that earlier and returned to your settlement.”

No cajoling this one.

“Yes, I know I was very foolish, sir. I won’t do it again, but it’s spring. After all that snow we had this winter, I was just aching to run the fidgets out of my hide. Don’t you ever get that urge?” she asked, dimpling up at him.

There was a snort of laughter from the other three.

“It seems we have a handful here!” one of them said.

“This one is tying you up in knots, Alex. What say we take her to DunBrodie and let the Darach deal with her? It will be amusing to see her try her tricks on him,” another suggested.

Morag pouted and flounced, but it did no good. She was obliged to shift. Then the four of them, Alex in front, another behind, and the other two on either side of her, herded her through the beech woods and up into the mountains. They followed a narrow, tortuous track. Although they were forced to go in single file, there was no opportunity for her to escape. The sheer rock on one side and the steep drop on the other took care of that. She was left with no option but to keep moving forward, receiving the occasional encouraging nip if she slowed.

When they reached the settlement, the layout was exactly the same as DunBrora, so she knew where the Darach would be.

This is going to take forever, and Auntie May is going to have my hide if I’m late. This stuffy old man is going to be slower than a snail. I bet he’s on his last legs. He’s going to want to know all about me, and I don’t have the time. How am I going to get out of this?

ADULT EXCERPT

“Because I’m your mate and I can read your emotions.”

Auntie May told me this would happen when I found my mate, but boy is it inconvenient.

“Does it work both ways?" She inquired, striving for a nonchalant tone.

“Oh, yes, of course it does. You just have to get used to it. Look at me and tell me what I’m feeling.”

She looked into his eyes and felt the colour flood her face, again.

“Oh,” she breathed.

“Just so. I’m well pleased with my mate, our love-making, and I’m aching to take you again. Did I say I love the way you colour up?”

She swatted him playfully, and he caught her arm, swinging her round into his embrace.

“Careful, little one. I’m horny and if you get too playful, I shall find a quiet spot and demonstrate what else I can do,” he warned her.

She felt excitement flood her body and she shivered in anticipation. Her legs trembled, but she took long, deep breaths to calm herself. This will never do. He’s not getting it all his own way, if I have anything to do with it.

“Will you now? Well, we’d better get along and bathe. It’s time for the pack run, soon,” she said. Why on earth did I say that?

“Oh, I know that, little one.”

She tossed her head, flicked her hair back over her shoulders, and stalked ahead of him. She heard his amused chuckle, and she vowed he’d pay.

When they reached the bath-house, the black wolf shifted to human form, fully intending, it seemed, to watch over his Darach. Balvaird smiled at the woman in charge and whispered in her ear. She directed a startled glance in Morag’s direction, but she said nothing.

What’s he plotting now?

She soon found out. The woman attendant led them to an area of the bath-house that Morag had never visited. There were cubicles with large tubs and curtains to ensure privacy. Morag’s eyes grew round. Balvaird selected one and stood back to allow Morag to precede him. He followed her in and, nodding to his depute law-keeper who remained outside, drew the curtain across the entrance.

He turned on the taps and then, taking off his clothes, placed them on the bench. He leaned over to test the water. He displayed a muscular backside and round, heavy balls as he bent much further over than was necessary, in her opinion. She sucked in a breath and ground her teeth.

He’s messing with me. Drat him. I’ll give him some of his own medicine.

Balvaird settled in the bath and watched her. He looked supremely at his ease with a satisfied smirk on his face. She’d soon change that. Slowly, she started to undo the buttons on her shirt, starting to pull it off, but then stopped. Changing her mind, she pretended to arrange her towel on the bench and look for a peg on which to hang her clothes. Finding none, she’d be obliged to fold them, and a wicked thought occurred to her.

She turned her back on Balvaird. As she slowly pushed her skirt down over her hips, she removed her knickers stepping daintily out of them both. Letting fall her skirt and knickers, she bent from the waist to pick them up and heard Balvaird draw in a breath. She well knew what was on display to tempt him. She folded her skirt and placed it on the bench, and then she repeated the pantomime with her knickers. She heard him growl a warning.

“Be careful what you are about, little one.”

She shrugged her shoulders, turned toward him, and oh so slowly removed her blouse. She folded it and placed it on the bench with her skirt and knickers. She turned to face him and stretched her arms way above her head. Before she realized what he was about, he’d leaped out of the bath and seized her. He threw her over his shoulder and returned to the water, allowing her to slide down his length as he stood in the hot, soapy suds. As she slid down his lean, wet body, she met his cock, which was fully erect, and she gasped.

“Now you’re going to relieve the pain you’ve caused,” he said gruffly.

He turned her and placed her on her knees in the water. She grasped the sides of the tub. He knelt behind her, his cock demanding entrance, but he wasn’t quite ready. He bent over and bit her shoulder. He found her breasts with his hands, and pinching, pulling, and tweaking, he drove her so wild that she pushed her hips into him and he chuckled.

“Teasing is a two-edged sword, as you are about to find out, little one.”

He grasped her hips and pushed his cock between her swollen pussy lips. She was wet and slick, and he entered her easily. She felt so full. When he withdrew, his dick slid over some part of her and the sensation of pleasure was heightened.

A few questions for the author

Q: How did you come to write this story?

A: I was talking to Sage Marlowe about wolf shifters when the idea for this series came to me. I sat down to plot it, and then it took over and I began to write.

Q: What do you like most about the new series?

A: I have read a lot of Sci-fi and Fantasy, and I loved creating the new world. I had a lot of fun thinking about the characters and their roles, and researching the names.

Q: Why do you have a new pen name?

A: This is a new genre for me, unlike most of my other books, so I decided it would be appropriate to let Flora McGregor do the writing. She will handle the Highland Wolves Series, but Clair de Lune will carry on writing.

Prometheus in Chains will soon have another story, and Angel in Hell has a second book, at present with Siren. Highland Wolves has a second story, also plotted.

Author bio:

I live in Dumfries and Galloway in Southern Scotland, although I was born in South Yorkshire. I spent many happy years teaching, and when I retired, I became bored with just the domestic routine. My youngest son challenged me to write a novel of my own, and I wrote Initiation, book one in the Prometheus in Chains series.

I don't think it was quite the sort of book he had in mind, but all my family have been very supportive and encouraged me to carry on writing. Writing has become an important part of my life. It’s been like a roller-coaster ride, and a very pleasurable one at that.

When I sent off my first book to Siren, I had no idea what I was setting in motion. I joined Facebook, something I never dreamed I’d do, but I have made many good friends on there, some readers and some fellow authors. Writing has certainly changed my life.

Tiger's Mate by April Zyon. A Story from the Bad Alpha Anthology

AprilZyon-BadAlhaMF-evernightpublishing-jayaheer2015-banner

Blurb:

Streak politics, and differences in opinions forced Kurt Owens to choose his own path. While it may be outside of the law in many regards he sees it as ensuring justice for the true victims of crimes when the system fails them. It’s his way of seeing the guilty pay, and keeping his own inner beast in check with the violence, and blood it craves.

Everyone thinks having a super power would be great. Alexa Harold would beg to differ. She’s been cursed to see ghosts, the dead not yet having gone to their final resting place, or judgment, or wherever they belong. They track her down, and harass her until she’s ready to go mad. Learning early in life what she needs to avoid has been the only saving grace in keeping her sanity intact.

Then she sees a man who couldn’t possibly be real. It was just her luck that such a prime specimen would in fact be deceased. Only he isn’t, and he’s taking notice of her. With a little temptation, some mystery, and a taunt he leaves her wanting more. Kurt never thought he’d find his mate outside of the streak, or streak functions.

While those of a supernatural inclination aren’t exactly rare, they have had to be careful and keep their population down. Alexa is the woman for him the only one he could ever want or need. And when her life is put in danger by his own past Kurt won’t stop until everyone understands to get to this tiger’s mate, they’ll have to get through him.

Excerpt:

Wrapping his hand around the fresh longneck the bartender slid his way, Kurt lifted it to his lips to take a long drink. His contact was late. Never a good sign when the guy who did all his go-between work wasn’t on time. Especially when it was payday. Kurt would give the man another half hour before hunting his ass down. Any longer than that and the ditzy blonde at the other end of the bar might garner up some courage to come talk to him. Her friends had been daring her to since they’d caught sight of him.

So far she’d resisted their urging despite the number of hungry looks she’d sent his way. While he had zero problems hooking up with some random, preferably nameless, chick in a bar, that one looked like serious trouble. He could have given anyone a multitude of reasons why. Namely he knew she was trouble by the two thousand dollar shoes, one and a half thou handbag, and he didn’t even want to tally up her outfit.

Kurt wasn’t a connoisseur of fashion, not even close, but he’d been around enough to start to recognize the brand names. He had to be observant in what he did, as otherwise he’d end up dead. He took another long pull from the bottle, camouflaging his perusal of  the group so that they wouldn’t  perceive it as interest. The blonde was downing shots.

Freaking fan-fucking-tastic.

If she put enough down, she’d likely get up the courage to actually wobble over in her overpriced stilettos. Not what he wanted tonight. He was here to get paid for the job he’d completed, and then he was going to find a place where no one knew him to crash for many hours of peaceful slumber. Tensing, he felt someone getting close he let out a breath.

Only the waitress.

He’d chosen the end of the bar with the wall to his back so he could see the entire place, and so no one could get too close without him knowing. While it sucked if he had to bail, it was tactically the wisest location in case trouble came calling. And blonde bimbo was making her move.

Son of a fucking bitch.

She tottered across the bar, closing the distance between them as he waved the bartender over for another cold one.

Relief crashed through him as his contact slid onto the empty seat at Kurt’s side.

“Sorry, man, fucking accident six blocks over fucked me right up. I’m late. I sincerely apologize. Didn’t know it was there until I was in the thick of the shit. It’s truly amazing how perfectly decent human beings turn into the Grim fucking Reaper when there’s a DOA at a crash. Couldn’t get a single one of them to move enough to let me through. Fuckers all looked at me like I was the douchebag.”

Lenny signaled the bartender when he’d finished his spiel. Kurt gave the man a few moments to take a drink before he acknowledged him.

“No worries,” he said quietly.

He didn’t bother mentioning he’d been mere minutes from heading out to hunt his scrawny ass down. No reason to upset the little guy unduly. Besides, Lenny knew what Kurt would do to him if the man didn’t show up for a meet.

“I tucked it into the usual spot,” Lenny said. Which meant Kurt’s payment was secured in Kurt’s truck in the lockbox in the back.

“I may have another gig for you. I’ll need to do some background, and check a few of the less clear details, but I should know something in a couple of days.”

Kurt gave a slow nod. The blonde was back at the table of idiotic sorority types downing more shots.

“Shoot me a text for a meet when you feel confident about it.”

While Lenny might give the impression of being the unreliable sort, Kurt did trust him. To a degree. The man brokered all the deals, kept Kurt out of it all, and ensured Kurt got paid for what he did. Doing what he did, it wasn’t like Kurt could set up a web page and advertise. That was just begging for a one way ticket to a ten by eight cell for life, if not the chair. Tipping his beer up he did another visual sweep of the place. Movement from the end of the bar near the girls caught his attention.

Son of a … bikers, why the hell is it always bikers?

Most were good guys even if they did shit that had the law on their asses most of the time. Then there were the wannabes who acted tough, blew smoke, and basically started shit. The guys making lewd gestures to one another about the sorority sisters were very definitely in the second category. Big, scary looking, and assholes. They’d also been drinking so it was a situation ripe, and ready to explode. Setting his beer down Kurt turned slightly.

“You may want to finish that up, and clear out. There’s about to be trouble in here.”

Kurt was itching for a fight. His last job had gone smoothly, too smoothly for him. He was a hands-on sort that liked to get good and bloody. The biker assholes might finally give him a way to let off a bit of steam. And if he happened to break a few of their bones or faces, all the better in his mind. While Kurt’s conscience didn’t pipe up all that often, there was no way he’d risk the guy that was his go-to man.

“Uh, shit, right.” Lenny chugged the last of his beer quickly. He reached to his pocket. “I got it, go.”

Kurt pulled off a couple of bills to pay for his beers and Lenny’s. The man took a cut off every job Kurt completed, which was all of them because he was that fucking good, but Kurt still paid for his drinks at every meet.

“One of these days I will pay for a drink, you know.”

“You can try, but we both know who has the better and faster moves. Now go. You’re no use to me in a hospital.” “The love and concern for my wellbeing I feel pouring off you warms my heart.”

Hearing the sarcasm Kurt turned his eyes on the other man, and growled. Not some pissy ass sound a human could make, but a sound only a born predator could pull from the bowels of his gut.

Surprising the Alpha- The Venn Pack in Love by Elodie Parks

Thank you for inviting me to your lovely blog today to talk about my new release with Siren Publishing, ‘Surprising the Alpha’, an erotic, paranormal romance.

Blurb

The town is dying after a new highway takes its previous through traffic and custom away from shops, cafes, the bars and tourist attractions. The Venn wolf-shifter pack and alpha, Joshua Venn, are suffering. They’ve lived happily in the town as humans and like it, but now they’re threatened with slinking back to a woodland den with their tails between their legs.

One day Dani Cruz and her brother Jason hit town. They’re entrepreneurs whose business is urban regeneration and they intend to save this town. Only one person resents their arrival, alpha wolf-shifter Joshua. Will his determination to be the only one who saves his pack drive the town to ruin? Or will something happen that changes his life forever?

Joshua Venn is looking for answers. It’s one hot summer and someone hides a secret.
This alpha is in for more than one surprise.

About the story:

Surprising the Alpha was originally written for an anthology, but then ultimately developed into a full-length story, and the first in ‘The Venn Pack in Love’ series.

Joshua Venn is particularly dear to me as a character. He’s sexy, an alpha, but vulnerable, and as he falls in love with Dani Cruz, the heroine, he has to accept he’s not the big bad alpha he hoped to be.

We get a glimpse of the whole Venn pack and meet the character who features in the second Venn Pack story, an erotic paranormal suspense, ‘Wolf Bond’.

I wanted this wolf-shifter pack to be different and have none of the sometimes hackneyed
wolf-lore found in this type of story. The series has a third story already in the pipeline and each story features one of the pack, in love, of course. (Smiles)

Read an excerpt:

Her feminine perfume surrounded him. Her heartbeat echoed in his ears. Her golden-green eyes flashed as she spoke. Her long hair flicked around her shoulders and swept the tops of her pretty arms as she spoke. Her mouth enticed him. The way her bottom lip stuck out as she stared up at him bravely sent lust speeding through him. Hardly knowing what he was doing, he grabbed her face and sank his mouth on hers. The second he kissed her every muscle in his tightly strung body relaxed.

Soft lips parted under his. Her delicate hands slipped across his chest to hold him tight.
He floated in sensation. His cock hardened deliciously. With a low growl, he let her go and stepped away, shocked not only at his needs, but also at her passionate response.

With a soft sound, Dani followed to be close to him again. “What did you think of my offer to you?”
Joshua’s hackles rose. He pushed her away, saw her unbalance, and caught her. He crushed her to his body.

She molded to him and tilted her face to his.

Joshua gazed into her eyes and saw desire, pure sexual need. His mind emptied of everything but the softness of her ass cupped in his hand. He rammed his erection against her, a low growl escaping before he kissed her so hard she whimpered. Joshua tore her shirt off, sucking her neck hungrily.

Something Unexpected, A Paranormal Contemporary Erotic Romance by AJ Jarrett

Blurb

After years of captivity and being treated as a science experiment, Dax Garrett is free. He’s scared of the world around him but he refuses to be a victim anymore.

Colt Perry is a hunter who’s been placed on a mandatory leave of absence. Not what Colt wanted and he’s complaining to anyone willing to listen. All he has is his work and without it he feels lost and alone, two things Colt despises more than anything.

Everything changes when Colt meets a shy Dax. Dax isn’t sure what to think of this strong and sexy man but he can’t refuse what is so clearly right in front of him.

Life’s short and Colt is sick of living alone. Loving Dax means everything to Colt but along with that love comes an unexpected surprise. Will Colt be able to handle the changes about to descend on his life or will he disappear back into a world of loneliness?

Excerpt

Colt couldn’t get enough. He stabbed his tongue at Dax’s tight opening over and over again until finally it gave way and Colt could get the tip of his tongue into Dax’s tight hot channel. The sweet, musky scent of Dax’s body filled Colt’s nose and he growled against the soft flesh.

“You taste so fucking good, baby.” Colt ran his tongue up and down the length of Dax’s crack then spat at the small bud. Using one finger, Colt slowly pushed at the tight barrier. He felt as Dax’s body went tense then slowly relaxed once Colt had his finger all the way inside. “You feel that, Dax?” Colt asked as he pulled his finger in and out of his tight hole. “I’m inside you. God you’re so tight and hot.” Colt’s breathing sped up and his chest rose and fell hard with each intake of oxygen.

Dax raised his arms above his head and grabbed at the blanket beneath him. His body was covered in a fine sheen of sweat and his thick, hard prick twitched against his stomach with every inward thrust of Colt’s finger. In all of Colt’s years of having sex he had never seen a more delectable sight. It was as if Dax felt things with his entire being. Every small touch, every kiss, Colt could see that Dax hungered for more. Dax’s body responded so acutely to Colt’s and it made that warm gushing sensation filling his gut explode until all Colt could think about was fucking Dax. He wanted, no, he needed to be the first and only one to ever know what it was like deep inside Dax’s body.

What the hell am I thinking? Colt’s body froze as his mind started to have a silent tug of war inside his head. This was all getting too serious but Colt couldn’t stop. All the reasons he should put an end to this right here and now just weren’t enough. Colt wanted Dax so badly it hurt.

Dax’s whimpering and quivering body pulled Colt out of his silent musing of what was right and wrong. If being with Dax was wrong Colt would deal with that later, but right now everything felt so perfect and right. They both needed this.

Colt bent back down and licked around his finger, then added another. Dax’s muscled clenched down tight but Colt continued his inward push with his fingers until he found that secret little nub inside Dax. Colt massaged his fingertips over Dax’s prostate and Dax’s let out a loud deep growl that sent the birds in the nearby trees to flight.

“Colt.” Dax grunted, his eyes clenched tight, hands fisted by his head. Colt let his gaze roam down the pale flesh of Dax’s body, his pink, round nipples hard and his cock red and thick, filled with his unspent desire. “Colt, I need—” Dax thrashed around on the blanket as Colt added another finger, scissoring them in and out of the tight opening.

“What do you need, baby? I’ll give you anything you want.” Colt scooted closer and leaned down to kiss Dax’s lips. He could taste the faint traces of blood from where Dax had bitten his lip. “Just tell me,” Colt whispered as he kissed along Dax’s jaw.

“You.” Dax’s hands came up to grab onto either side of Colt’s head. “I need you, Colt.”

Colt stared down into Dax’s light blue eyes and in that moment there was so much he wanted to say but couldn’t. Colt pulled his fingers free of Dax’s body and went to work on his jeans and pushed them down his thighs. Having sex wasn’t something he had anticipated when Colt invited Dax out for dinner. He wanted things to go slow and he wasn’t properly prepared but he’d go slow, give Dax time to get used to him.

Colt spit into his hand, using that combined with the oozing pre-cum leaking out his tip to lube up his cock. Dax’s pupils were blown wide as he stared up at Colt, his legs spread wide open. Colt held onto the base of his cock and slowly guided it forward.

“Dax, baby, this will hurt at first.” Colt positioned his body over Dax’s, their sweat-soaked bodies sticking to one another. “I need you to relax and breathe, okay?”

“Okay.” Dax nodded his head, his eyes still wide open.

Colt ran the wet tip over the small opening. Dax’s eyes rolled up into his head and his breath whooshed out of him. Colt thrust his hips forward, guiding the swollen cap at the center of Dax’s tight bud. Colt moved slowly, pressing against Dax’s resistance until the head popped inside. Tight hot heat engulfed Colt. Dax’s grip was so tight it was as if Colt’s dick was being strangled but in a very good way.

“Ouch, Colt!” Dax’s fingers scratched at Colt’s back. Sharp claws dug into his skin.

“It’s okay, baby.” Colt lifted his hand to comb Dax’s floppy blond hair out of his eyes then leaned down to rest his forehead against Dax’s. “I’m here. There’s no rush. If you want to stop we can.” Colt lifted up just enough to look into Dax’s eyes. So many emotions seemed to filter over Dax’s eyes, pain, happiness, fear, and hope.

“No,” Dax whispered. “I want this.” Dax took a deep breath then wrapped his legs around Colt’s hips. “I want you.”

“I want you, too.” Colt went in deep, pushing his tongue deep down Dax’s throat as he pressed forward with his cock. He swallowed down Dax’s cries and held still once he buried his entire length into Dax’s scorching channel.

Colt held perfectly still, giving Dax time to get use to his thick, long cock. Ever so slowly he felt as Dax’s body relaxed around the invasion and Colt pulled out slowly then pushed back in. He never once tore his eyes from Dax’s.

Liberate; A New Hidden Oaks Romance by Ana Raine

Blurb:

Carson and Tate have been running for months, trying to evade the JIA so they don't end up lab specimens for the ruthless organization. In a last ditch effort, Carson and Tate head to Alaska, where other Changelings are congregating in an attempt to find a way to control their thoughts and emotions when they shift to their animal forms.

The secret to maintaining their human consciousness may lie in Carson's blood, but Carson believes he no longer holds the key to his kind's freedom. With their future on the line, Carson realizes the most important part of his life will forever be his mate, Tate, but how can he trust a man who never tells him the whole truth?

Excerpt:

“Carson,” his voice was velvety smooth and sweet behind me. The motel we were currently in wasn’t all that bad, everything considered. At least the locks on the door worked and our room overlooked a pool that didn’t look completely gross.

“You’re back,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around my naked chest. I’d always been slender and small, unlike my very attractive mate who beat me in stature and height. But our lack of eating had only made my frame smaller, if such a thing were possible.

“I’m sor-"

I held up a hand to stop him, afraid my legs would give out beneath my staggering body if I didn’t. “If you’re going to say you’re sorry, please don’t.”

His ice blue eyes softened and he ran a hand through his shiny blond hair. My hair tickled my bare shoulders because of how long it was getting.

I suddenly laughed a nervous gesture. “Do you happen to have any scissors?”

He smiled and joked, “Aren’t planning on giving up, are you?”

“No, just want to cut my hair.”

His eyes darkened as he crossed the distance between us and wrapped his arms around my waist. “Now why would you do something like that when your hair is so gorgeous?”

I blushed all the way up to my ears. Even after all we’d been through, he still did that to me. “What’s in the bag?”

We switched cars and license plates so often; I was starting to feel like we were in an action flick. Tate had gone out alone to get some supplies, which always drove me crazy with worry.

“Ah,” he flashed his straight white teeth. When he transformed into a wolf, his teeth became sharp and even whiter. “Food, clothes, surprise…”

I narrowed my eyes. “What kind of surprise?”

Going over to the bed, he picked through the multiple grocery bags before tossing me one. The first thing I saw was a box of cookies, which I eagerly tore open like a ravenous animal and bit into. The second was a pair of swim trunks, bright blue.

When I looked at him, mouth full of cookie, he held up another pair of swim trunks. Nodding his head towards the pool, he asked softly, “Want to go?”

I swallowed, “It’s practically midnight.”

“Motels don’t have curfews for that sort of thing. And even if they do, I didn’t see a sign anywhere.”

Tate was giving me the most bemused expression so I had to ask. “What on Earth is so funny?”

“You. Even after everything, you’re still one to follow rules.”

I blanched and pulled down my pants so I could change into the swim trunks. “I was going to be a psychologist.”

“You still could,” Tate whispered, eyeing my brief nakedness with a look of raw hunger in his eyes.

“If I can ever remember what I was studying,” I admitted, tying the string securely around my hips.

Meet My Character Monday Blog Hop- Reid DeWitt- Reluctant Alpha Leader

Meet Reid Dewitt- an alpha who is reluctant about his role as pack leader.

He lives in Michigan and owns a ranch that he has inherited from his father.  Reid is fifty but looks thirty four.

A lover more than a fighter- Reid can more than hold his own in a fight but would prefer to talk first because it's just his way.

His story is the first in a series that takes place on his ranch.

Here is an excerpt (unedited)...

As they pulled up to the ranch.  He saw his friend waiting for him.  Pulling up beside him, Reid lowered the driver's side window.

“How is she?”

“I think it's broken.”

“Drive her over to the clinic it's all set up.  Cassie's waiting.”

“Yep.”

He drove them over to their small clinic.  One of the first things that he added on when he took over the general running of the ranch, it was now fully stocked with everything a ranch hand could need from medical equipment like a couple of exam tables and an X-Ray machine, to medicines including a small pharmacy.  Something they needed on occasion.

Since the nearest town was at least an hour away, it was helpful to have in case they ever needed.  Weres needed doctors just like everyone else but not always for the same ailments.
“Don't worry miss,” Cassie said opening the door.  “We'll take real good care of you.”

“I think I can make it,” she said sliding down on to her good foot.  He watched as she wrapped her arm around Cassie's neck, attempting to hop and walk at the same time.

“Allow me,” Sumner said approaching.

Reid held out his hand.  “I got it,” he said lifting her into his arms and taking her inside.  He set her down on the exam table.

“It'll be alright,” Cassie said gesturing for him to leave the two alone.

Suddenly feeling exhausted he stepped outside.  The sun shone brightly.  It had been a perfect day, he hadn't had a care in the world. But  now, he was concerned.

“Sir? What about the truck?” one of his ranch hands asked.

“Park it on the back drive way. I suspect, she won't be going any where tonight,” Reid said handing the man her keys.

“I hear we have a guest,” his father said walking toward him.

“Word travels fast.”

“What can I say? We don't get too much excitement around here,” his father replied.

“I saw her over near the Red Oak.  She stumbled on a rock, hurt her ankle. The doctor is taking a look at it now.”

“I'll have Iris set up the guest room.  I suspect she'll be too tired to drive.  Plus the sun will be going down and it wouldn't be proper to have her out a driving by herself that late.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Son, you alright?”

“Yep.”

His father slapped him on the back.  “Let's get as much work done as we can before dinner.”

He knew his father was right.  There was tons to do but he didn't want to leave her.

“She'll be fine,” his father prompted gently.
