An Easy Peasy Recipe For A Delicious Twist On French Toast. Egg Nog French Toast.

I've created a recipe similar to this except mine is for bread pudding.  Perhaps I will post it. Until then, this combines the delicious decadence of French Toast with the holiday flavor of Egg Nog.

Egg Nog French Toast is Must Serve This Holiday Season.

Turn this classic French toast casserole into the perfect holiday breakfast!

Ingredients

5 whole Eggs
1 cup Eggnog
1 cup Milk
1 teaspoon Rum Flavoring
1 loaf Sandwich Bread (about 14 Slices)
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
½ teaspoons Ground Nutmeg
½ cups Butter, Melted
¾ cups Brown Sugar
¼ cups Pecans, Chopped (optional)

Preparation

In large bowl, whisk eggs with eggnog, milk and rum flavoring. Dip each slice of bread in the mixture and lay, overlapping, in a 13×9 baking dish, until all bread is used. Pour any remaining mixture over the bread. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

When ready to bake, in a small bowl mix melted butter with brown sugar. Pour over the bread (sprinkle with pecans if desired). Bake uncovered in a 350ºF oven for about 40 minutes. Enjoy warm!

Who Was St. Valentine?

St. Valentine

Today is February 14th, commonly called Valentine's Day or St. Valentines Day.  This day, which is commemorated around the world (from China to Pakistan not to mention all of over the western world) is the day that lovers celebrate love and romance!


We are very familiar with the trappings of Valentine's day, such as hearts, candy, love, roses, balloons and the all too symbol of love and passion- the color red that permeates this day, but the real question is where did this day come from?


In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius inaugurated, February 14 to celebrate and remember the martyrdom of St. Valentine who was a Roman Priest who was martyred during the reign of Emperor Claudius II for marrying Christian couples and for aiding any Christians who were being persecuted by him.  


Once imprisoned, one legend says that while Valentinus was there he restored the sight of his jailer's blind daughter and another legend says, on the eve of his death, he penned a farewell note to the jailer's daughter, signing it, "From your Valentine."


So even while under immense persecution he still remembered to love others.  As should we.  So, who is your Valentine?
