#MidweekTease-You May Address Me as Sir... #BDSM #RomanceNovel #Menage

Hello Fellow Teasers!

Welcome to this week's sexy tease is from my nearly complete, untitled, WIP, contemporary, erotic, BDSM, MMF, romance.  Heavy on the BDSM!  Before I begin I want to thank #AngelicaDawson for organizing this fun blog hop.

On to today's excerpt. If it's nearly complete you are probably wondering why there is no title. That's because I title my books once they are 100 percent done, complete, that's all she wrote folks done. Then I think of the story as a whole and craft a title from there. So until that happens...no title and is still a WIP to me.

A little about this scene.  The Dom has just 'acquired' his two subs for the week.  He has been away from the lifestyle for a long time and hasn't had a full-time sub in years.

---

“Yes Sir,” they replied.

He liked the sound of that Sir.  For years the word, Sir had many meanings in his life.  It was what he called his father on my many occasions, as evidence of their distant relationship.  It also stood for the gentry and peerage with whom his family associated along with the people he grew up with.

Then there was its use as a term of respect and endearment from a sub to his Master. He preferred that usage.  It was intimate, loving and suggested a commitment that was more than just sex. The Dom has taken someone under his care.  And the submissive has willingly given him or herself to the Dom because they trust that the Dom will always have their best interests in the forefront of His mind. And once a sub was collared by a Dom, the bond between them became even stronger.  It was a sacred and should never be broken.

At one point he had hoped he'd be able to collar someone again.  But allowing himself to feel that strongly about a man or woman was too dangerous. Cecily has showed him that.

“For the duration of the contracted weekend you may address me as Sir around those in our social circles and as Ian if we are in town or in London.  If we do go to London, then you are my American friends here on holiday and I'm your host there to show you around," Ian said. “Do you understand and agree?”

“Yes Sir,” they replied.

Okay thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget to check out my fellow romance authors and the wonderful teases they have to offer.

Come by often, I promise you'll love what you see!

Until next time,

Clare

Cover Reveal—‘Mistress Of The Air’ by S. Nano-This Dominatrix Has A Vision For Her Submissives #BDSM #Erotica #Steampunk

‘Mistress of the Air’ is a genre-crossing comic, Steampunk, erotic adventure as Lady Sally delivers a BDSM kick up the back-side to the Edwardian country house novel.

Blurb

Lady Sally Rudston-Chichester owns a brass mine in Zanzibar, a Lapsang Souchong tea plantation in China, a rubber farm in Malaysia, trunk loads of corsetry and the country’s largest collection of antique whips.

Larger than life, and itching to find new and inventive ways to punish her submissive gentlemen, the Edwardian dominatrix has a vision.

Embracing the spirit of the age of aviation, she embarks on a series of adventures on her airship, ‘The Corseted Domme’, with her transvestite maid, Victoria, her airship pilot, Captain Wyndham and her automaton sex-doll, Borghild.

A select group of submissive gentlemen, consisting of a duke, bishop, lawyer and banker, is invited to join Lady Sally so she can try out her dastardly, electric and steam-powered devices on them.

She spanks, whips, and punishes her way across the Empires of Europe, dropping off to visit her aristocratic relatives and friends for afternoon tea.

But Lady Sally’s journey is not uneventful. War is threatening to break out and the Ministry of Aviation want to commandeer her airship for the war effort. And when ‘The Corseted Domme’ has a crash landing, Lady Sally realises there is a stowaway on board intent on sabotaging her airship.

--

Story extract

“Jolly bad luck on the final race, Wyndham. It was a daring move and deserving of greater reward.”

The captain’s face lit up at the compliment. He looked up but couldn’t help but be distracted by the sight of Lady’s Sally’s breasts. Her dress was cut daringly low, and the magnificent orbs of white flesh were pushed up enticingly by her corset and the cut of her gown.

And then she started talking. If Wyndham was embarrassed about what to say to her, he didn’t need to worry. She commanded the conversation and Wyndham listened, bewitched and mesmerised at the vision she laid before him. There was no escape for him. He was pinned into the corner by Lady Sally’s heaving breasts with no escape. He tried to concentrate on what she was saying, conscious of the treatment meted out on Monsieur Le Blon, all the time urging himself to focus on her face not her chest, but it was an enormous effort of will when they were practically thrust under his nose.

She spoke of her airship. She described how vast it was going to be, how fast, how powerful, and how high it would fly. She described how sumptuously it would be fitted out. She extolled the virtues of her ocean liner of the air. Wyndham nodded enthusiastically as her breasts swelled and subsided with every excited explication of her venture. She enthused about her designers and engineers who were working on it, of the technical challenges they faced and how they had overcome them.

Wyndham stood trapped in the corner of the ballroom like a frightened rabbit in headlights all the time trying to distract himself from the sight of Lady Sally’s enormous décolletage as it heaved up and down in front of his eyes.

Then she proceeded to explain how, as he must certainly know, she was the foremost dominatrix of her age and described with great enthusiasm the dungeon that would be fitted out on the airship, and how excited she was about the adventures she would have, and the whippings, spankings and punishments she would administer to the carefully selected group of submissive gentlemen who would be accompanying her on the airship’s maiden voyage.

“It’s my ambition, Captain Wyndham, to be the Mistress of the Air, yes…a veritable Mistress of the Air, and I envisage you playing a vital role in fulfilling my vision.”

Wyndham’s ears pricked up at those words but he only had the slightest moment to interject with a nervous, “oh really,” before the enormous breasts backed him even further into the corner. Lady Sally continued by praising his aviation skills and the daring manoeuvres she’d witnessed at the flying meeting. Wyndham flushed with pride. She went on, much to the captain’s delight, to say how those French aviators were all show and no guts, and she needed somebody who would take risks for her, to serve her loyally and selflessly. Finally, she wound up her diatribe and came directly to the point.

“Now Captain. I pride myself on my instincts and judgment of character. You see, the matter is I need an airship pilot. I need someone who can share my enthusiasm for air flight and is a skilled aviator. I believe you are my man Wyndham.”

Lady Sally continued extolling the excitement of the new age, how she was going to take her airship on a grand tour across Europe and how he, Wyndham, would be her pilot.

Finally, she concluded, “So that’s all settled then, Captain Wyndham. I can assure you the financial rewards will be considerable. It’s good to have you on board. I’m sure we will share many adventures together. You can report to my airship station at Howden in Yorkshire. My maid, Victoria, will give you all the details.”

With one dismissive wave of a lace-gloved hand she breezed off, leaving the hapless Wyndham gaping in astonishment. He had been swept away by her charisma. He had barely uttered a word. At no point had he agreed to the venture yet he knew in his gut he would accept the challenge. He felt strangely compelled to help Lady Sally fulfill her vision of travel in the largest and fastest dirigible ever to be built.

Heart in Chains by Elodie Parkes-Danger And Temptation Await Them #RomanceNovel #Suspense #MM

I so enjoyed writing ‘Heart in Chains’. I’d just written, MM romance, ‘A Forever Kind of Thing’ for an Encompass Ink anthology to be released later this year and I was still in MM story writing mode.

Connor and Jay my heroes just gelled in my mind immediately as I considered the kind of adventure Connor might have on vacation in an exotic place such as Indonesia. Jay is a mysterious character, tough, driven, but on the verge of changing his dangerous life when he meets Connor. Connor is still getting over a relationship break up, but it’s been long enough and he’s tired of being single. His former boyfriend’s betrayal stays with him, but as soon as he sees Jay, attraction is seeded in his heart.

These two characters are dear to me. Tenderness lies beneath Jay’s composed and tough exterior and courage lies beneath Connor’s sexual vulnerability. I think both will surprise you as you read their story.

Blurb:

When Connor Douglas takes a tropical island holiday, he hopes to leave heartbreak behind. Little does he know the extent of the danger and sexual temptation that awaits him.

Long after Jay Levesque has closed down his operations on the very same tropical island, the memory of Connor haunts him.

Warm nights and scorching sex has someone’s heart in chains.

Read a teaser:

Darkness was falling as Jay arrived back with another man. They carried a tray each and the other man carried a stool. The other man left, but Jay smiled at Connor as he waited by the bed. Jay flipped a switch on the wall by the door and lit the place. Light streamed downward from the little white coolie-hat shade.

“Come, let’s eat.” He indicated the chair and sat on the stool himself.

Connor dragged his chain as he went to the table. He sat and took the cover off the plate of food. It looked good and the fish was already cut up, which was great since there was no knife, only a fork by his plate. He didn’t expect to be hungry, but after tasting the food, he ate almost all of it before he put down his fork and gave a sigh.

Jay ate slowly. When Connor stopped eating so did he and he placed his fork on the tray.

“It’s good to see you eat. Kiku, the man who brought the food with me, is going to bring coffee. Tell me about yourself.”

Connor turned to face Jay. He felt better after eating. “I don’t get it. Why do you want to know? Why are you being kind?”

Jay frowned. “There’s no need not to be kind. Humor me. Tell me a little about yourself.”

Connor shrugged. “I’m a marine biologist. I’m on vacation. I needed something completely different in my life for a time. These islands seemed like a good idea, far away, warm, beautiful, and …” He stopped talking. What’s the point in this?

Jay pushed his dark hair back from his forehead and folded his arms. He smiled.
“Far away. From what, Connor? A love affair gone wrong I think.”

Connor looked down at the remains of his food in confusion. Did he really want to tell his captor about his heartbreak?

“Not that it’s anything to do with you, but yes … I guess.”

Before Connor could react or even know what was happening, Jay reached out a hand and slipped it around Connor’s head. He swooped on Connor’s mouth and kissed him.

The kiss was so unexpected and yet so delicious, Connor closed his eyes and let it happen. He drifted in the soft merge of Jay’s lips on his. The lingering pressure and the way Jay brought his other hand up to caress the back of Connor’s neck was addictive. Connor leaned into the embrace. His cock hardened. Tingles from the circle of Jay’s fingertips on his neck spread down his spine and made his ass feel melted. Thoughts left him. The only thing that mattered right then was the kiss, and he lifted his hands to hold Jay’s muscled shoulders and kiss him in return.

It was Jay who drew away from the kiss.

Connor leaned back in his chair then, shocked at his response.

#SatSpankings-There's Nothing Like A Spanking To Drive A Point Home #RomanceNovel #BDSM

Welcome to the Saturday Spankings Blog hop!  If you're a reader who likes stories with a touch of corporal punishment, this is the hop for you.  We welcome readers comments. In fact,we hunger for them, so don't be stingy when you're visiting.  Authors thrive on encouragement.

---

Here is an excerpt from Book 2 in the Love Play Matchmaking Service, Joy To His World. It has been accepted by Siren Publishing so look for it soon.

---

“I trust Vander completely and I know he wouldn't do anything but I didn't trust those hoes one bit.  I just know they tried to hit on him more than once.”

“That's what happens when you have a man who's gorgeous, some women will do whatever they can to take them away from you,” Jilly said refilling her cup with tea from the small porcelain kettle.

“I'm getting pissed off.  Let's change the subject before I hop in the car and drive to the office totally disobeying Dueno in the process.”

“Sounds good to me.  My Sir made it clear that I can't accompany him in the police car.  I've had more than one spanking to bring that point home,” Belle said. She shifted uncomfortably in the chair.
Jilly winced remembering one of her many spankings.  As gentle as Chris was, he had one hell of a swing for his large hand.  It didn't help that he worked out with his punching bag in the home gym callousing his hands despite always being gentle. Nevertheless the sting on her rear made a lasting impression.

An Interesting Find by Lucy Felthouse-We could make it romantic #RomanceNovel #MM

Blurb:

Nathan and Lee are on a relaxing summer holiday in the UK. They plan to do lots of walking and exploring in the beautiful English countryside. Naturally, typical British weather derails their plans on their first day, leaving them cooped up indoors with little to do but read.

When the weather clears, the men eagerly put on their hiking boots and head out for a walk. However, when they reach their destination—a pond a little distance from their holiday cottage—they make a shocking discovery. An odd-looking bundle of rags turns out to be an unconscious man. With no one else around, and no mobile phone signal to call for help, they manage to get the stranger back to their cottage to get him warm and dry, and figure out what to do next.

When their unexpected house guest regains consciousness, however, things just get more complicated. The stranger—a British soldier called Jonny—doesn’t want the authorities to be notified of his presence. As the three men try to come to some agreement, the sexual tension in the air becomes apparent, and suddenly the last thing on any of their minds is leaving the cottage…

*****

Excerpt:

Closing his book with a very final slap, Nathan then put it on the coffee table in front of him. He leaned back in his chair. Stretching languidly, he said, “Bloody good, that was. Though, admittedly, I thought it’d last me all week. Wasn’t expecting to get through it on day one.”

Raising an eyebrow, Lee shot Nathan an amused glance. “Not far off myself. Fucking storm. Stupid us, eh, going on holiday in the UK in summertime—not like you can guarantee the sodding weather, is it? Should’ve gone to the Canaries.”

“No, we can’t guarantee the weather, but…” Nathan gave the window a sidelong glance, “I do have some good news.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. The torrential downpour has stopped.”

“Seriously?” Lee slammed his own book closed and scurried over to the window. “Oh, wow, it’s cleared right up, and I can see a rainbow. Wanna head out? Just a little wander down to that pond we saw on the way here, maybe? Get some fresh air. We’ve got loads of daylight left, haven’t we?”

Nathan checked his watch. “Yeah, plenty. Especially if we’re only nipping to the pond. It’s probably only a fifteen-minute walk.”

“Fantastic. I was going a bit fucking stir crazy in here. I’ll grab our coats and shoes.”

Lee had disappeared into the hallway of their rented holiday cottage before Nathan had the chance to reply. Shaking his head with a smile, Nathan collected their empty mugs from the coffee table and took them into the kitchen, then got a bottle of water from the fridge. He doubted they’d need a drink during their short trek along the road, but he could just shove the bottle in his coat pocket and forget about it. At least it’d be there if they wanted it.

When he returned to the living room, Lee was just about to tie up his laces.

“I got water,” Nathan said, brandishing the bottle.

“Cool. Shoes are there.” He nodded to the chair Nathan had been sitting in. Sure enough, his trail shoes were waiting on the floor in front of it.

“Thanks.”

Within a few minutes, they were headed out of the door. Nathan locked up, pocketed the key, then checked the handle. He doubted very much the place would get broken into—they were in the middle of nowhere, after all. There were farms nearby, but the closest village was about a mile and a half away. So any thieves would have to make a considerable effort to get to the cottage in the first place, never mind attempt to break into it. Rolling his eyes at his own paranoia, he turned and followed Lee, who’d already started walking slowly along the road in the direction of the pond.

After falling into step beside Lee, Nathan pulled in some deep breaths, enjoying the fresh air after being cooped up in the cottage. It was a beautiful and cozy place, but it was supposed to be a base for them to go walking—somewhere for them to eat, sleep and shower, not to be stuck in for hours on end, staring at the walls. Or climbing them.

He admired the rainbow as they walked, its vivid colors painted across the watery sky. It seemed the clouds had literally exhausted themselves—only occasional wispy streaks of white now interrupted the never-ending blue. The sun beamed down, heating up the ground and beginning to evaporate the huge puddles. It would take some doing—one such puddle stretched across the width of the road, and they had to skirt around its edge to avoid getting wet feet.

Nathan smiled. Though the storm itself had been grim, the washed-out aftermath made everything feel fresh, clean somehow.

“You look thoughtful,” Lee said, breaking into his reverie. “A penny for them?”

“Mmm. It’s one of those things that sounds better in your head than said out loud.”

“Try me.”

Shrugging, Nathan replied. “Nothing major. Just admiring the rainbow, the sky, the clouds… Thinking how everything looks so fresh and clean after a good storm. Like it’s been purified, or something… Ugh, it’s stupid.”

Lee stopped and reached for Nathan’s hand. His green eyes were wide and filled with wonder. “No, it isn’t. Not at all—I was thinking something similar myself. It’s kinda romantic, isn’t it? Purification, rebirth, and all that.”

“In a roundabout way, maybe. I dunno.” He shrugged again.

Lee’s eyes narrowed, and his lips curved into a wicked grin. “We could make it romantic.”

“How so?”

“Come here, and I’ll show you.” Still gripping Nathan’s hand, Lee tugged him close and moved in for a kiss. Nathan went into the embrace willingly, the smile on his face soon smothered by Lee’s hot lips.

Never in his life had he been with someone as edgy as Jack.  The other Doms were nice but none had the kind of darkness that shrouded Jack.  It wasn't the kind of darkness that said run for your life but in reality was the sign of a broken, misunderstood and solitary man.  He wanted to be Jack's light if Jack would allow him.

Hearts In Chains by Elodie Parkes- Jay Is Haunted By A Love He Can't Forget. Meet Him. #RomanceNovel #MM

Read the teaser:

Jay grabbed him and somehow they were back in an embrace. This time Jay kissed Connor.

The passion in the kiss exploded in Connor’s mind and he grabbed Jay’s head. He kissed Jay hard, thrusting his tongue into Jay’s mouth, his hands fisting in Jay’s hair, and he tugged to keep Jay’s mouth against his.

Jay’s groan of pleasure filtered through Connor’s haze of lust as they straightened out their bodies and pressed together, each rubbing their erect cocks on the other’s stomach.

Connor’s towel had come off and he was naked in Jay’s arms. His cock ached it was so hard. He moaned into Jay’s open mouth. “I can’t believe how fucking much you turn me on.

Meet the elusive Jay Levesque:

Hi Jay, Welcome to the blog

Jay: (Smiles) Hi, It's great to be here.

So tell us a little about yourself.

Jay: Well, you understand I can't say too much, because of spoilers but more for personal work reasons.

I'm six two, I have hair that is dark, but in certain lights it shows up some chestnut color. Blue eyes that Connor says are really turquoise. Weird huh? My work's secret. I have to keep it that way for the time being. I've recently moved cities and I'm loving Boston.

What about the story, can you tell us something about that?

Jay: It's an adventure/suspense/ love story. (Grins) Naturally, it might not be an adventure if you're on the receiving end of what I dish out during my work. It's a love story for sure. I'm bowled over when I meet Connor. I've never felt like that before. The story happens in a warm and lovely environment, pale blue oceans, palm trees, but my life there's a little dangerous. I've always been in dangerous work and I try to explain that to Connor towards the end of the story.

You mention Connor a lot. Tell us about him.

Jay: He's brave. He's hot. You know one of those guys who is really good looking and doesn't know it. He's a scientist, though not at all what you'd expect. I mean the stereotype of a scientist doesn't fit him at all. He's cool, loves music, working out, and me, thankfully. (Smiles)

What's hot about the story?

Jay: The weather. Me. The love scenes. A sarong. (grins) And Connor of course. The first time I kiss him is so moving, I have to hightail it or fall down at his feet. I have to be fierce to him from time to time, so I'm hiding how I feel then, but when I touch him, damn, it's like an electric shock right to my ... uh ... maybe I can't say where here.

I think we can guess. Do have anything else you'd like to tell us?

Thank you for inviting me to talk with you. I hope people like the story. It's really Connor's and my own journey to something we've always wanted.

Thanks Jay. He smiles.

“Thank you Dueno,” Jilly replied her words sliding into a purr.

Heat rose up from his belly and filled his chest. Whenever she reached up to touch his face, everything else faded into nothingness.  He craved her like a man starving for food.  She was the fire in his soul, the breath in his lungs, and the beat in his heart. Jilly was everything he’d ever wanted and needed.

“Tell me your safe word,” he said to Nate.

“Anzac,” Nate replied.

#MySexySaturday-He Was Sexy To Her, Despite The Danger That Surrounded Him #RomanceNovel #MF

This week’s theme is My Sexy Warrior. This is our nod to any story that has a character in it one would consider a warrior or warrior like.

---

Here is an excerpt from my WIP.  Most women didn't find him or his profession very sexy but she was the exception...

---

Meet my inspiration for Dillon, the main character in my WIP-

He's hot isn't he?  Believe it or not, he has a problem getting and keeping women because of his job...

Source Unknown
--
Excerpt:

Dillon thought for a moment.  He recalled all the times he'd been on dates and brought up his job and what they thought about marrying a guy in his field.  Many said they couldn't handle the stress of being with a man with such a dangerous job.  Then there was the stigma attached to being with a AD officer.  People felt like they had to be on their toes around them lest they turned in for saying something that disturbed the common peace.  Which was ridiculous, people weren't arrested based on what they said, it was because of what they did.  But most of society did not see them that way. That's why the officers tended to run in their own circles, socializing with people in enforcement or some cases governance. It was easier.

“I don't see it as a problem.” She smiled.

“What about me?  Do you mind that I'm AD?”

She shook her head.  “I think it's sexy.”

Dillon grinned.  He'd never been called sexy before.  At least not to his face.  But then again, he tended to not look for those kinds of compliments from the criminals he dealt with.

Unconventional by Lucy Felthouse-She's Straight-Laced, He's Not. But Their Attraction Is Undeniable #RomanceNovel #BDSM

Blurb:

Penny was caught out in the wrong place, at the wrong time. As a recently graduated law student, the brush with the law could put an end to her career before it’s even begun. But thanks to her lawyer daddy’s contacts, she’s been given a second chance. A chance to redeem herself and make her stupid behavior go away.

Which is how she ends up working in a soup kitchen, preparing and serving meals to those who are having a rough time of it. She’s not keen on the idea, and when she meets Maddox, the guy in charge, she’s even less keen. A tall, skinny, mad-haired, tattooed guy, Maddox is the sort of person Penny would normally cross the road to avoid. But once she gets to know him, she starts to see things differently. He’s had a checkered past himself, and has now put it behind him and enjoys a glittering, prosperous career as a top chef.

Maddox may have unconventional looks, but Penny quickly grows to like him, and, much to her surprise, finds herself attracted to him. He’s a lot older than her, and their lives are at completely different stages, but in spite of this, there’s an undeniable connection between them.

When Maddox makes Penny an unconventional offer, will she have the courage to take him up on it? And if she does, where will it lead?

*****

Excerpt:

From the very second I laid eyes on him, it was clear he was unconventional. If I’m being truthful, I thought he looked like a complete nutter—someone I’d probably cross the road to avoid. Even in the daytime. He was tall and skinny, with a shock of black hair—still apparent under his hairnet—and pale skin. Kind of like Edward Scissorhands. Only—mercifully—without the scissors for hands part. A vine-looking tattoo began at his left wrist, worked its way up his arm, then snaked beneath the sleeve of his T-shirt…to who knew where?

Oddly, even though I mentally kicked myself for thinking it, I found myself wanting to find out. Did it stop at his upper arm, his shoulder? Did it continue over his back, his chest, twine its way around a pectoral, sneaking in toward the nipple? Or even farther south, perhaps?

Even if you took Mr. Unusual out of the equation, there was nothing normal about the situation I found myself in. After all, what recent graduate of law school finds themselves volunteering in a soup kitchen? A recent graduate who lost her head—and heart—over a bad boy, that’s who.

Most people seem to think that those who study law are smart. Super smart, actually. There’s a reason for that—folks who study law are smart. If they pass all the exams, that is. And I did—with distinction. Which makes me clever on paper, I suppose, but apparently lacking in common sense, or perhaps I just have severely poor judgment. Or both.

However you want to look at it, I fucked up. Big time. I fell for the wrong guy, trusted him, and ended up caught up in something that got me arrested.

It could have been the end of my law career. Before it had even started, and after all those years of education—not to mention a rather large chunk of my parents’ cash. Fortunately, they’ve got plenty of it, due to my daddy’s successful career. He works in law, too, which, luckily for me, means he’s got friends in high places.

So it was less voluntary work, more community service. Otherwise known as do-this-or-you’ll-get-a-criminal-record-and-kiss-your-career-goodbye.

Fixing my potential glittering career in my mind, I took a deep breath and crossed the industrial-looking kitchen, heading toward him. He looked utterly at home chopping carrots—he was like one of those chefs you see on the telly, his hand and the knife he gripped moving so fast they were almost a blur. I cringed at the thought of trying such a thing. Never mind the end of my career, it’d be the end of my fingers.

Approaching cautiously—I didn’t want to startle him and cause a horrific accident—I waited until he’d finished his carrot before speaking. “Um, hi.”

Turning quickly, still with his knife in his hand, he smiled. “Ah, hello. You must be Penny.”

For a moment, I was so caught up in his eyes that I couldn’t reply. Fortunately, I managed to get a grip before I was the one who was a nutter. “Um, yes, that’s right. I’m here to help out.”

As though suddenly realizing he still held the knife, he glanced at it in his hand, then quickly put it down on the counter. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to greet you with a blade! I’m so used to using the things that it’s like they’re an extension of my arm.”

Hmm, so maybe he’s Edward Knifehands. I suppressed a shudder.

Those stunning eyes—such an unnatural yet beautiful blue—twinkling, he held out his now empty hand. “I’m Maddox Black. Pleased to meet you. And very pleased to have you here.”

We shook. As we did so, the heat that had sparked inside me when we’d made eye contact began to intensify.

Christ, no, Penny. You just ditched one bad boy. The last thing you need to do is swap him for another one.

A Mate For The Sheriff by April Zyon-Can A Witch Be A Shifter's Mate? He Knows She's His #RomanceNovel

Blurb

Jessica Morris has a secret that could get her killed. Hiding in plain sight, pretending to be normal, is all she’s ever known. And even though she’s been lucky so far, she knows that she can’t hide in Shifter Falls forever. Getting involved with the town sheriff is the last thing she needs, but lately it’s all she can think about.

Novak Porter has watched Jessica since the first day she came into town. He suspects that, like everyone else in Shifter Falls, she’s got a skeleton or two in her closet. She’s nervous around him, and for years he’s forced himself to give her time. But when a chance encounter throws them together for more than five minutes, Novak decides he’s tired of waiting. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her around. Convincing her to work for him is easy, but getting her to believe in happily ever after might be a little more difficult.

Excerpt

Jessica turned to the voice in the darkness. The sexiest voice on the face of the planet. “Sheriff,” she said, her pulse increasing when she turned to look at him.

He looked as if he had been built of stone, and again she wondered just exactly what sort of shifter he was. No one seemed to know, or be willing to share, which was very strange in a town like Shifter Falls. Then again, she didn’t let anyone know what she was, either, so it could just be a privacy thing.

“I’m not sure what’s going on, but suddenly all the electronics inside the car went completely dead. The lights, dash, everything. I’m afraid it’s the alternator, since it has a brand-new battery.”

She might be a lot of things, but she wasn’t completely stupid.

“And I think that Jagger’s cub swiped my cell phone, again, so do you think you could maybe call a tow for me?”

She shook her head. “That little guy gets me every single time. I swear he’s taken more cell phones off of me than I can count. Phi is never able to find them, so there’s no telling what he does with them.”

She was snickering as she said that. She didn’t know why she was talking so much, but she was.

The sheriff was watching her intently and didn’t seem all that bothered by her random rambling. He merely pulled out his cell and put in a call for a truck.

“Mick will come get your car. He said to leave the keys on the passenger front tire since he might be a while. They had to pull a couple cars from a slough after some young twits decided that drag racing with their parents’ cars was a good plan. Come on, I’ll give you a ride home.”

She whistled. “Oh boy. I bet there are going to be some kids in serious trouble about right now. Thanks for the offer of the ride.”

She grabbed her purse, locked the car, and put the keys on the front passenger tire as she had been instructed.

“You’ll probably be going out of your way a bit. I live at twenty-nine Forest Acre Road.”

It was a dirt road surrounded by forest and she loved it. Nature called to her, and at least there she didn’t have to worry about nulling any abilities as she typically did when she was near other witches.

“No worries at all. It keeps me out of the station until the parents have finally wound down to a dull roar and the kids have had a few minutes for everything to sink in. Anyhow, I think that an hour’s worth of stewing before I arrive to come up with some interesting charges might help the situation. By then I’ll know if the lawyers have actually been called in or not and can figure out how to play this to keep the kids from doing something worse down the line.”

The sheriff held her door for her, then shut it when she settled into her seat. A minute later he was setting out reflective markers behind her car before sliding in behind the wheel to take her toward town and home.

“You are a good man. Too bad you can’t keep a secretary to save your gorgeous ass.”

She felt her face turn red from heat when she realized she’d blurted that out. “Crap, ignore me. I don’t know what I’m saying.”

She cringed, but then shrugged. Since it was too late to take her candid observation back, she pressed on.

“Well, from what I understand, you have gone through thirteen of them inside of three months. That’s outstanding right there.”

He leveled a look on her she couldn’t read. She was only thankful he seemed to ignore her initial comment and it allowed her cheeks to cool.

“I have a specific way I expect things to be done. And, I admit, my temper can get the best of me. Everything we do can be called into question inside a courtroom. If even one I isn’t dotted right, or a T was missed being crossed, that is potentially a dangerous offender being allowed out on the street due to clerical error. Unacceptable in my book so, yes, I have some impossibly high standards I expect to be carried out by every man and woman in the department.”

“No, not impossibly high standards. They are perfectly reasonable. The way that everyone made it sound you were seriously a neat freak nut job, but what you’re saying doesn’t sound like that at all.”

She understood the importance of perfect record keeping, of ensuring that everything was where it should be at all times.

“When the council took me on as their secretary, I had to redo a hell of a lot of stuff because the person before me couldn’t seem to understand that paperwork is filed by number then letter. Idiots.”

She smirked and looked over at him.

“I guess I have high standards as well. Then again since I’m a witch without abilities, I have to be able to contribute somehow, right? Especially with my mother’s coven proclaiming me to be nothing but a human.”

That’s what all of Shifter Falls thought of her, and she was happy to keep it that way. When she’d first started out on her own, she’d wondered if it wouldn’t have been smarter, and safer, to try to hide even the fact that she’d been born into a witch family. Ultimately she’d decided that it was better to stick as close to the truth as possible. So she never tried to hide the fact that she had been born to witch parents. It was unlikely that she would ever run into anyone from her old coven, but on the off chance that she did, she didn’t want to arouse suspicion by being caught in a lie. Besides, being known as a witch without powers—therefore, more or less, human—kept her just as safe as if she’d tried to pass herself off as a normal human.

“I’m glad you understand. Few do,” he muttered. “I think the council foisted their rejects my way for some form of payback. They all loved the idea when the mayor had me run for office and I won by a landslide, but the minute I arrested the first council member and wouldn’t take a bribe, they started to wonder. Told them the same thing I told the mayor when he hired me—I was going to run things my way, and if they found someone that could run against me and get elected that would be the only way they’d get me out of that seat. They haven’t had any luck yet.”

Jess knew it was because the sheriff was respected by every citizen in the Falls as well as the other two cities that made up their exceptionally small county. While not everyone agreed with his methods and strict by-the-book ways, they liked how he’d cleaned up and kept the area protected from a drug problem several years back when he’d first taken the position.

“You cleaned up the area. No one would run against you. You’re too good at your job, so it is what it is.”

She shrugged. “You are strict and you can be an ass from what I’ve been told, but then again there are a lot of falsehoods that fly through Shifter Falls, aren’t there?” she asked with a smile.

“True enough. The trick is determining what’s truth and what’s lie in everything that goes around town. It’s amazing what one can discover the moment they find that tiny thread and give it a tug. After all, there’s not a soul in this town that is exactly who they appear to be on the surface once you dig down a little further.”
